The region is located to the West of Argentina, formed by an Andean orographic mass with the majors heights of this mountain range, that extends towards to the East until the foot of the mountain.
It holdes a small area of the provinces of Catamarca, La Rioja, San Luis and almost the totality of the provinces of San Juan and Mendoza. "Piedemonte"(foot of the mountain), is a depression filled up by sediments contributed by winds and the rivers. It is one of the most arid areas of the country, with few precipitations that do not surpass 250 annual mm. In this zone, there are some slumses, dedicated to the breeding of the young goats.
However, in the areas in which irrigation works have been realised, there is major density of population and take place an intensive agriculture and industrialization harvests.
This region of huge mountains has to offer one of the most imposing sights of Argentina, the Aconcagua, the highest peak in the occidental hemisphere. The central Andes are ideal for backpackers who could do Adventure Tourism and ski.

You can visit the diverse wineries and also follow the Route of Wines in La Rioja, Mendoza, and San Juan Valleys, where you can taste the different wines.
Another place of interest is theValle de la Luna (moon´s valley) which it is inside the Ischigualasto National Park; one of the most important paleontology fields of the world. The characteristics are its colors and its amazing carved shapes produced by the erosion, which makes the valley a wonderful place.
