Argentine´s northeast region is well known for its virgin forests, the red soil and the impressive water falls. Prodigal beauties where you can enjoy the natural enviroment, jungle, animals and exotic wildlife.
The water falls are located in the National Park Iguazu where you can see upto 276 water falls jumping from cliffs of 70 meters high.
This region is the only that show borders clearly-defined for geographical feature as Uruguay and Paraná rivers that separate the northeast from the “pampeana” and “chaqueña” plains and from the Republics of Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay.
The “misionera” plateau constitutes the maximum rise of the area (800 m) that belongs to the southern border of the Brasilia solid with red gritty and “meláfiros”. This is an arched surface crossed by low mountain range, surrounded by many rivers and streams that form water falls and cascades.
In this region there is a subtropical climate without dry period, with precipitations upper to 1.600 mm annual that create a humid forest. There, it stands out “araucaria”, “jacarandá”, “lapacho” and “guatambú” that allow to make an important forest exploitation. In spite of the importance of these species, the most relevant is the “Yerba Mate” that contributed with the colonization of the area.
The warm climate in the North become temperated in the South, resembling to the “pampeana” plain climate. The vegetation follows the course of the rivers making forests in gallery. The most important species are the “urunday”, the “espinillo” and the “tala”.
In the South of Corrientes is Mercedes plateau, settled in Mesozoic rocks, specially sandstone and it constitutes a water spread center and an area suitable for cattle farming.
Toward the South there is a serie hollows that do not overcome the 100 meters. This is a result of the combination between recent tectonic movements of ascent and of the bank erosion. The most important hollows are the “Cuchillas Grande and Montiel”.
With a significant tourist infrastructure, cities like Rosario, Santa Fe, Paraná, Corrientes and Posadas mingle landscape beauty with historical, architectural and cultural circuits, providing the possibility of multiple activities both for the day and the evening.
Although Iguazu has always been a well known destination, North East Argentina has been developing recent years and there are new hostels that are opening in conecting destinations or in emerging attractions. And long the new hostels, packages, excursions, and tours designed for backpackers!
